Atletico Madrid is reportedly open to selling Conor Gallagher in the upcoming January transfer window, creating a potential path for the England international to return to the Premier League. Manchester United is preparing a bid as part of their efforts to strengthen the midfield, with Crystal Palace, Tottenham, and Newcastle also monitoring the situation closely.
Gallagher joined Atletico from Chelsea in the summer of the previous year but has struggled to secure consistent minutes under Diego Simeone. The club’s influx of new midfielders such as Johnny Cardoso, Thiago Almada, and Alex Baena has further limited his opportunities, leaving him with just two La Liga starts so far this season despite a brief chance in the Champions League against Liverpool.
This lack of regular play has fueled speculation about Gallagher’s desire to head back to England as early as 2026. Manchester United views him as a versatile option with proven Premier League and European experience, making him an attractive target regardless of managerial changes at Old Trafford.
Atletico is believed to value the midfielder at around £50 million, which would deliver a profit on their original investment from Chelsea. However, financial pressures after a heavy summer spending spree may push them to lower their asking price closer to £40 million, increasing the likelihood of a deal being struck in January.
