Marselino Ferdinan Misses Indonesia U-23 Squad Due to Injury Ahead of SEA Games

Marselino Ferdinan has been notably absent from both the senior and U-23 Indonesia national team rosters, including the upcoming training camp for the 2025 SEA Games. His omission has sparked questions, as he is a key young talent who could have contributed to both squads.
The Indonesia U-23 coach, Indra Sjafri, selected 32 players for a training camp in Jakarta from October 2 to 14, which includes friendly matches against India on October 10 and 13. Marselino’s absence is attributed to ongoing injury concerns rather than tactical decisions.
The 21-year-old midfielder is recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during Indonesia’s match against Lebanon on September 8, 2025. Direct discussions with him confirmed that he is still experiencing pain when performing movements such as kicking or shooting, preventing him from participating safely in training and matches.
Marselino has also yet to appear at the club level this season, spending the year on loan at AS Trencin from Oxford United. In his absence, the U-23 squad includes other players with senior team experience, such as Ivar Jenner, Rafael Struick, and Adrian Wibowo, as the team focuses on building a competitive lineup for the SEA Games.
