Indonesia U-23 Set for Double Clash with India as SEA Games 2025 Preparations Begin
With the formation of the Indonesia U-23 national team for the upcoming 2025 SEA Games, preparations have officially begun under new head coach Indra Sjafri, who replaces Gerald Vanenburg. A total of 32 players have been called up for the first training camp, including six naturalized talents and several new faces. Among them are Tim Geypens, Dion Markx, Rafael Struick, Jens Raven, Ivar Jenner, and Adrian Wibowo, forming a diverse and competitive lineup for the months ahead.

However, not all players are currently fit to join the team. Marselino Ferdinan from AS Trencin and Kafiatur Rizky from Dewa United have been sidelined due to injuries after medical consultations between club and national team doctors. Despite these absences, the squad is expected to build early chemistry and tactical understanding through upcoming friendlies.

As part of their initial warm-up program, Indonesia U-23 will face India U-23 in two test matches at Stadion Madya Senayan, Jakarta. The games are scheduled for October 10 and October 13, just a day apart from Indonesia’s senior team’s World Cup qualifying matches. These friendlies are viewed as an important first step in shaping a strong and cohesive squad capable of defending the gold medal achieved at the previous SEA Games in Cambodia.

Beyond seeking to maintain their championship form, the young Garuda squad is also motivated to avenge their earlier defeat to Vietnam in the AFF Championship final and to further strengthen their mental edge after a penalty shootout win against Thailand. With ten nations set to compete in the 2025 SEA Games football tournament—excluding Brunei—Indonesia’s U-23 team enters this phase determined to refine their form, rebuild confidence, and uphold national pride.
