Liverpool Rule Out January Move for Crystal Palace Defender Marc Guehi
Liverpool are facing a defensive dilemma after Geovanni Leoni suffered a long-term ACL injury, compounded by uncertainty over Joe Gomez’s future at the club. Despite the growing need for reinforcements, the Merseyside side have reportedly decided against pursuing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the upcoming January transfer window. The England international had been on Liverpool’s radar during the summer, but a deal fell through on deadline day.

According to reports, Liverpool have no plans to revisit the move in January due to financial constraints following significant summer spending. The club’s management believes a mid-season signing would be impractical, both economically and strategically, preferring to assess their defensive options again next summer. As it stands, no new centre-back arrivals are expected during the winter window.

Insiders suggest that while Liverpool remain interested in Guehi long-term, the defender is unlikely to leave Crystal Palace midway through the season. The club intends to hold onto him until at least the end of the campaign, when stronger offers from major European teams could emerge. Liverpool’s recruitment team is therefore focusing on internal adjustments to cope with their current defensive issues.

Complicating matters further, Guehi’s growing reputation has attracted interest from top clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City. With such competition looming, Liverpool’s chances of securing the defender in January appear minimal, making a summer approach their only realistic option if they wish to bring him to Anfield.
